Ricoh GR IIIx Overview
Compact Camera, Uncompromising Performance
The Ricoh GR IIIx builds on the proven GR-series formula with a newly designed 26.1mm f/2.8 prime lens that provides a 40mm-equivalent field of view. Compared to the 28mm-equivalent GR III, the slightly narrower perspective offers a more natural field of view and greater visual compression, making it well suited for street photography, everyday shooting, and selective compositions. The camera combines this lens with a 24.2MP APS-C sensor, hybrid autofocus, Shake Reduction, and a compact, pocketable design.
40mm-Equivalent GR Lens
The GR IIIx’s f/2.8 lens uses high refractive index and low dispersion glass along with aspherical elements to deliver sharp, color-accurate images. A dedicated Macro mode provides a close-up focusing range of approximately 4.7 to 9.4″, while the built-in two-stop ND filter allows wider apertures or slower shutter speeds for creative effects. Built-in 50mm and 71mm crop modes provide additional framing options.
24.2MP APS-C Sensor and GR Engine 6
A 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor and GR Engine 6 produce high-resolution 14-bit DNG or JPEG stills with natural color, detailed tonality, and an ISO range of 100-102400. The 3-axis, 4-step Shake Reduction system helps reduce camera shake for sharper handheld images, while the sensor’s AA filter-less design maximizes sharpness and resolution.
The camera also offers 11 adjustable Image Control modes, multi-exposure shooting, multiple metering options including Highlight-Weighted metering, and Full HD 1080p video at 60, 30, and 24 fps.
Fast Hybrid Autofocus
The hybrid autofocus system combines contrast and phase detection for quick focusing performance. Face and eye detection can identify and prioritize subjects, while Full Press Snap allows the lens to instantly focus at a preset distance when the shutter is fully depressed, helping capture decisive moments with minimal delay.
Pocketable Magnesium Alloy Design
The GR IIIx features a lightweight and durable magnesium alloy body with a large thumb grip, physical controls, and a customizable ADJ lever and FN button. Its 3.0″ 1.037m-dot capacitive touchscreen provides intuitive control, while a startup time of approximately 0.8 seconds helps keep the camera ready for spontaneous shooting.
The camera includes a single SD card slot along with 2GB of built-in memory, Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi for wireless connectivity and image transfers, and USB-C for charging and file transfer. The included DB-110 rechargeable battery provides approximately 200 shots per charge.
