Sony a7R VI Overview
Blurring the line of what’s possible in an R-series camera, the Sony a7R VI combines a newly developed 66.8MP full-frame stacked CMOS sensor with up to 30 fps continuous shooting, advanced AI-powered autofocus, and powerful 8K video recording capabilities. Designed as a versatile hybrid camera, the a7R VI is well suited for portrait, landscape, wildlife, sports, commercial, and video production applications.
66.8MP Exmor RS Sensor & BIONZ XR2 Processor
At the heart of the a7R VI is a newly developed 66.8MP Exmor RS back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor, delivering faster readout speeds, improved dynamic range, and enhanced low-light performance. The stacked sensor design works alongside the upgraded BIONZ XR2 processor and dedicated AI processing unit for faster overall performance, improved subject recognition, and reduced rolling shutter distortion.
The camera supports 14-bit stills with a native ISO range of 100-32000, expandable to ISO 50-102400, along with up to 16 stops of dynamic range for rich tonal detail and HDR workflows. Continuous shooting reaches up to 30 fps with full AF/AE tracking, while new Pre-Capture and Speed Boost functions improve responsiveness for wildlife and sports photography.

Improved Stabilization & Pixel Shift Shooting
The revised 5-axis in-body image stabilization system provides up to 8.5 stops of compensation in the center of the frame and up to 7 stops at the edges for sharper handheld shooting. Active IS mode further enhances stabilization performance for video applications.
Pixel Shift Multi Shooting works with the stabilization system to create ultra-high-resolution composite images with approximately 265.8MP of information for increased detail and color accuracy. Additional multi-image HDR and Noise Reduction modes help improve dynamic range and reduce visible noise in difficult shooting conditions.

AI-Powered Autofocus & Subject Recognition
Sony’s advanced Real-time Recognition AF+ system uses a dedicated AI processing unit for improved subject tracking and detection accuracy. The camera can recognize and track humans, animals, birds, insects, vehicles, trains, and aircraft with greater precision, even when subjects are partially obscured or moving unpredictably.
The Fast Hybrid AF system uses 759 phase-detection points to cover 94% of the full-frame image area for fast and accurate focusing in lighting conditions down to -6 EV. Real-time Eye AF, Full-Time DMF, Focus Bracketing, and customizable focus area sizes further expand the camera’s flexibility for both stills and video work.

Advanced Video Recording
The a7R VI offers significant video improvements with support for full-frame 8K30 recording using 8.2K oversampling and 4K120 recording with full pixel readout. Super 35 recording modes also benefit from oversampling for improved detail and image quality.
Professional video features include 10-bit internal recording, S-Log2, S-Log3, and S-Cinetone profiles, ProRes RAW output over HDMI, LUT import support, Focus Breathing Compensation, and AI-powered Framing Stabilizer technology. Dynamic Active stabilization further improves handheld footage while recording on the move.
Sony also improved internal heat dissipation with a redesigned graphite heatsink structure, allowing for longer continuous recording times in high-resolution formats.
Professional Audio Features
For advanced audio workflows, the optional XLR-A4 adapter supports 4-channel 32-bit float audio recording with a 96 kHz sampling rate through the Multi Interface Shoe. An integrated noise reference microphone also helps reduce background noise when using either internal or external microphones.

Refined Body Design & Connectivity
The a7R VI features a redesigned magnesium alloy body with improved durability, handling, and weather sealing. A high-resolution 9.44m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder offers improved brightness and color accuracy, while the versatile 4-axis multi-angle 3.2″ touchscreen LCD combines tilting and vari-angle functionality for flexible shooting positions.
Connectivity includes dual USB-C ports, full-size HDMI, headphone and microphone ports, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, wired LAN support, and wired or wireless 4K livestreaming compatibility. The camera also supports direct wireless transfers, tethered shooting, and remote camera control through Sony’s Imaging Edge ecosystem.
Expanded Accessory Ecosystem
The a7R VI supports Sony’s updated NP-SA100 battery system and related accessories, including the BC-SAD1 dual battery charger, VG-C6 vertical grip, DC-C2 DC coupler, and professional XLR audio adapters. These accessories help expand shooting times, improve workflow efficiency, and support demanding production environments.
