Easy-to-Rig 12K Full-Frame Camera
The Blackmagic Design PYXIS 12K Cinema Box Camera merges a compact, modular form factor with a high-resolution 12K full-frame RGBW sensor. Designed for flexibility, it includes an ARRI PL mount, a 36 x 24mm sensor, and supports up to 16 stops of dynamic range. The camera body features customizable side plates and mounting points, making it well-suited for a wide range of rigging configurations.
Large-Format Digital Film Sensor
The 24 x 36mm full-frame RGBW sensor in the PYXIS 12K delivers a native resolution of 12,288 x 8040, providing exceptional detail and flexibility. Its large sensor allows for shallow depth of field and full-sensor anamorphic shooting without cropping. With a 16-stop dynamic range and dual-native ISO up to 25,600, the sensor maintains low noise and high image quality in both bright and low-light environments.
Flexible Film Formats
The large sensor of the PYXIS 12K supports a wide range of film formats and aspect ratios while maintaining high image quality. It enables true 6:5 anamorphic shooting without the need for cropping, preserving the full cinematic frame. For added flexibility in post-production, a Super 35-sized window can be used to generate close-up versions of open-gate shots.4o
Multiple Resolutions and Frame Rates
The PYXIS 12K supports a wide range of standard and high-resolution formats, allowing capture from HD up to 12K while utilizing the full sensor area. It offers flexibility in frame rates, including up to 40 fps at 12,288 x 8040 (3:2 open gate), 60 fps at 12,288 x 5112 (2.4:1), and 112 fps at 8192 x 3408 (8K). A dedicated HFR (high frame rate) button allows for quick switching to your desired high-speed setting without navigating through menus.
HDR Imagery and Dual-Native ISO
With a wide 16-stop dynamic range, the PYXIS 12K retains detail across highlights and shadows, supporting nuanced exposure even in high-contrast environments. The camera is optimized for ISO 800 and offers a dual-native ISO architecture, enabling clean results across a sensitivity range from ISO 200 to 3200, with an extended maximum of ISO 25,600. This setup helps maintain low noise levels while preserving the full dynamic range.
LCD Monitor and Onboard Controls
The built-in 4″ LCD touchscreen serves as a primary monitoring and control interface, providing a Full HD resolution with HDR support for accurate on-set viewing. With a peak brightness of 1500 cd/m², it remains visible in direct sunlight. On-screen overlays display critical tools and information, including recording status, histograms, audio levels, frame guides, and applied 3D LUTs.
Onboard Controls
Physical controls on the PYXIS 12K allow quick access to essential settings like ISO, white balance, and shutter speed. A scroll wheel enables fast, precise adjustments, while three customizable function buttons can be assigned to suit your shooting style. A control lock feature prevents accidental input during recording.
Optional Pro Handle and Pro Grip
Expand the PYXIS 12K’s versatility with the optional Pro Handle and Pro Grip accessories. The Pro Handle adds a daylight-visible HD OLED viewfinder, a zoom rocker, run/stop control, and a built-in stereo microphone. The Pro Grip offers a side-mounted zoom rocker with run/stop functionality and a comfortable handgrip for stable handheld operation.
Customizable Rigging
The PYXIS 12K is built from aerospace-grade aluminum for durability without added weight and offers a highly modular design for flexible rigging. Multiple 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting threads make it easy to attach the camera to gimbals, drones, or cranes. Included side plates allow for secure attachment of accessories like handgrips, microphones, and SSD recorders. A default side plate features one 3/8″-16 and two 1/4″-20 threads, while an optional rosette plate adds further mounting options.
