A Compact 7K Open Gate Powerhouse
Blending cinema-grade performance with true hybrid flexibility, the Canon EOS C50 is built for creators who demand uncompromising image quality in a compact body. Its newly developed 7K full-frame CMOS sensor unlocks high-resolution video, advanced RAW capture, and 32MP still photography—all switchable with dedicated Photo and Video modes for an intuitive, dual-purpose workflow. With industry-leading autofocus, professional connectivity, and native Camera-to-Cloud integration, the C50 is designed for productions that need speed, versatility, and reliability in equal measure.
7K Full-Frame Sensor & Open Gate Recording
New 7K CMOS Sensor
At the heart of the C50 is a brand-new 7K full-frame sensor delivering low-noise performance, rich color, and over 15 stops of dynamic range. Shooting in 7K provides exceptional flexibility for reframing or oversampling high-quality 4K deliverables.

3:2 Open Gate Capture
A first for the Cinema EOS lineup, the C50 supports full-sensor 3:2 Open Gate recording—ideal for anamorphic work, VFX, or multi-format delivery. Capture the entire sensor area in-camera, then crop or recompose freely in post.
RAW Power & High-Frame-Rate Recording
Record up to 7K60 Cinema RAW Light in 12-bit, with HQ, ST, and LT modes to balance quality and file size. For high-speed capture, the C50 supports:
- 4K120 XF-AVC with no crop
- 2K180 for extreme slow motion
- Additional options including XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S for streamlined file organization and metadata management
Internal anamorphic de-squeeze (2x, 1.8x, 1.5x, 1.3x) ensures accurate on-set monitoring when working with anamorphic glass.
Dual-Base ISO & Advanced Autofocus
Dual-Base ISO 800 / 6400
Canon Log 2 recording benefits from dual-base ISO for wider dynamic range retention in bright or low-light scenarios. Auto Selection mode can intelligently switch between base ISOs while maintaining image consistency.

Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II
Canon’s latest phase-detection AF system delivers reliable focus even at extreme frame rates such as 4K120 and 2K150. Improved light-capture efficiency expands the usable AF area, while deep-learning algorithms enable:
- Face & Eye Detection (selectable left/right priority)
- Human and animal tracking
- Enhanced bird detection
Your subject stays locked regardless of movement or frame rate.
Simultaneous Crop Recording for Social Media
Easily capture vertical-first content by recording a 2K crop version simultaneously while shooting in DCI or UHD 4K. Choose from 9:17, 9:16, or 1:1 aspect ratios to speed up delivery for mobile platforms and social channels.

Flexible Media Options
Dual card slots include:
- CFexpress Type-B for all primary and RAW formats
- SD card for proxies and sub-recording
Both slots support simultaneous recording—even with RAW capture—for instant backup and streamlined post-production workflows.
Native Vertical Shooting UI
Switch to Vertical Shooting Mode to reorient menus, monitoring tools, overlays, and touch controls. Start/stop recording, adjust brightness, and navigate menus naturally when shooting vertical content.

Detachable Handle with Pro Audio
The included top handle adds two full-size 3-pin XLR inputs with 48V phantom power, plus an integrated start/stop button and zoom rocker. It provides essential audio and control options for run-and-gun or low-angle shooting.
Comprehensive Connectivity for Production Workflows
The C50’s I/O array supports a broad range of professional setups:
- Full-size HDMI output
- 3.5mm mic input & headphone output
- Timecode port
- 2.5mm remote input
- USB-C for data, smartphones, or Ethernet adapters
- Multi-function hot shoe for digital audio accessories

XC Protocol & IP Control
Built-in Wi-Fi enables Canon’s XC Protocol for remote operation via devices like the RC-IP1000 or RC-IP100. Third-party controllers can shade the camera, and SRT streaming is supported for direct IP workflows.
Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud Integration
Native C2C support allows proxy files to be uploaded instantly after recording—with no transcoding required—accelerating editorial turnaround for distributed or remote teams.
Virtual Production Ready
Output CV Protocol metadata directly to compatible systems. Lens metadata extraction is supported through the CV Metadata Extraction plugin for virtual production pipelines.

Hybrid Photo Mode
Flip a switch to convert the C50 into a full-featured mirrorless camera. Borrowing the familiar EOS R-series interface, Photo Mode enables:
- 32MP stills
- Up to 40 fps continuous shooting
- Full-frame shallow-depth-of-field rendering
- ISO up to 64,000
- Full Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II support
For hybrid shooters, it eliminates the need to carry a second camera body.
