DJI RS 5 Gimbal Stabilizer Overview
Capture smoother, more controlled footage with the DJI RS 5 Gimbal Stabilizer, a lightweight yet powerful solution designed for professional creators. The RS 5 introduces a Z-axis (vertical) movement indicator, helping operators visually monitor vertical motion for more consistent results. While it does not provide Z-axis stabilization, the indicator offers valuable feedback for improving handheld technique.
Designed for speed and efficiency on set, the RS 5 features fast one-hour charging, increased runtime compared to its predecessor, and Teflon-enhanced balancing with fine-tuning knobs for quick, precise camera setup. Optional accessories such as an electronic control handle, Focus Pro motors, and DJI SDR Transmission expand its capabilities for advanced productions.
Battery Performance & Charging
When paired with the BG33 battery grip, the RS 5 fully charges in as little as one hour using a 65W PD charger and delivers up to 14 hours of runtime, a 15% improvement over the RS 4. With the optional BG70 battery grip, total runtime can reach up to 30 hours, making it well suited for long shooting days.
Native Vertical Shooting
DJI’s third-generation vertical shooting design allows for fast transitions to portrait orientation. With a simple loosen-rotate-tighten motion using a single-side knob, users can switch to vertical capture in seconds—ideal for social media and mobile-first content.
Quick Release & Balancing Design
The second-generation dual-layer quick release plate system simplifies camera mounting and balancing. A redesigned horizontal plate enables quicker vertical shooting transitions, while a fine-tuning knob on the tilt axis allows for precise front-to-back balance adjustments. Added placement guides on the upper plate improve mounting accuracy and security.
Intelligent Tracking Module
The included Intelligent Tracking Module attaches quickly via a magnetic mount and enables smart subject framing and tracking with a single tap. With a tracking range of up to 32.8′, it supports both gimbal-based and hand-gesture control for flexible operation when working solo.
Multiple tracking modes are available, including orbit, POV/selfie, and backwards tracking, making it easy to maintain consistent framing while moving with your subject.
Auto-Locking OLED Touchscreen
A fixed OLED touchscreen provides clear status monitoring and menu navigation. The new auto-lock function reduces accidental input and conserves battery by dimming the display while still showing gimbal and joystick movement indicators
Axis Locks & Rapid Deployment
Second-generation automated axis locks allow the gimbal to unlock and deploy in about two seconds when powered on. When powered off, the axes lock tightly with reduced gaps to minimize movement during transport and storage.

The RS 5 supports a wide range of professional tools and accessories:

Wireless Shutter & App Control
Dual-mode Bluetooth enables wireless shutter control with compatible cameras, allowing photo and video capture directly from the gimbal’s record button—no cables required after initial pairing. The Ronin app further enables remote exposure control, virtual joystick operation, and motion-based gimbal control when paired with DJI image transmission accessories.
Intelligent Shooting Modes
A dedicated mode switch allows quick changes between Pan Follow, Pan & Tilt Follow, and FPV modes. FPV behavior can be customized for 3D Roll 360, Portrait, or Custom configurations. Additional creative tools include motion-lapse, tracking, and panorama modes, with a customizable trigger button for instant FPV engagement.
