A Classic Concept, Reimagined for the Digital Age
Inspired by the charm and spontaneity of half-frame film photography, the FUJIFILM X Half breathes new life into a beloved format—now in a sleek, digital form. Compact, stylish, and thoughtfully minimalist, this point-and-shoot camera features a vertically oriented 1″ sensor paired with a fixed wide-angle prime lens, delivering sharp, vibrant images with a distinct analog aesthetic. Designed for quick, decisive shooting, the X Half embraces the creative essence of film with a suite of film simulation modes and intuitive controls.
18MP 1″ Sensor
Inspired by half-frame film cameras, the FUJIFILM X half features a vertically oriented 18MP 1″ sensor that captures rich, expressive stills and videos in a unique 3:4 aspect ratio. Designed to deliver a film-like aesthetic, it supports FUJIFILM’s renowned Film Simulation modes and offers intuitive manual controls, including a dedicated exposure compensation dial, aperture ring, and responsive rear touchscreen—making it a stylish and creative companion for vertical content and everyday shooting.
Wide-Angle Prime Lens
The FUJIFILM X half features a fixed FUJINON Aspherical 10.8mm f/2.8 wide-angle prime lens, offering a 32mm equivalent focal length that’s ideal for everyday shooting. Designed with manual control in mind, it includes an aperture ring with a helpful tab for quick adjustments and an ‘A’ mode for switching to auto exposure settings. A front focusing ring allows manual focus down to just 4″, with a zone focusing scale available in Film Mode for added precision.
Film Camera Mode
The X half’s Film Camera Mode mimics the experience of shooting analog film by letting you pick one Film Simulation and commit to a 36, 54, or 72-shot “roll,” with images only viewable after completing the roll and “developing” them via the FUJIFILM app or your computer. Emulating a true film workflow, the camera disables image previews and displays only a frame counter, focus toggle, timestamp option, and zone focusing scale. You’ll frame shots through the optical window viewfinder and manually advance frames using the built-in lever, creating a deliberate, immersive film-like experience—complete with a contact sheet of your final roll.
Film Simulation Modes
Integral to the X half’s character is its strong emphasis on FUJIFILM’s renowned Film Simulation modes, which pair seamlessly with the Film Camera Mode. A secondary sub-LCD next to the main rear display mimics the classic rear film window, showing which “film” is currently loaded. This small touchscreen makes it easy to swipe up or down to preview and select from the different Film Simulations, offering a tactile and intuitive shooting experience.
The camera includes 13 Film Simulation options, such as the vibrant Velvia, the nostalgic Classic Chrome, and the high-contrast black-and-white Acros. Users can further customize their look with a Grain Effect setting and enhance their images using 26 additional filters inspired by analog imperfections—like Light Leak, Halation, Expired Film, and Double Exposure—bringing even more creative flexibility to your shots.
2-in-1 Shooting Mode
Inspired by the classic diptych presentation of half-frame film photography, the X half features a unique 2-in-1 mode that automatically pairs two sequential exposures—whether photo or video—into a single diptych-style image. Activated by using the Frame Advance Lever after the first shot, this mode creates a finished composition with the second frame, saved as one file. Users can customize the final look by adjusting the background color, border width, and border style for a creative, ready-to-share presentation.
Design Details
Built for portability and spontaneity, the X half embraces a compact, film-inspired design that enhances both usability and creative enjoyment. From its physical Frame Advance Lever to the manual dials and optical viewfinder, every element is engineered to evoke the tactile experience of shooting film—while offering the speed and simplicity modern photographers need for quick, intuitive operation on the go.
- Optical window viewfinder is positioned in the corner to mimic a classic rangefinder style. It matches the camera’s field of view and 3:4 aspect ratio, offering a minimalistic experience with no shooting or focusing information. An eye sensor automatically disables the rear LCD when the viewfinder is in use.
- Vertically oriented rear LCD aligns with the sensor’s vertical layout and features a touchscreen interface for intuitive menu navigation and quick access to shooting settings.
- Sub LCD touchscreen next to the main rear screen displays the currently selected Film Simulation mode by default. When navigating menus, this pill-shaped display allows intuitive control and selection of category options.
- No traditional Menu button — instead, the X half uses gesture-based navigation on the rear touchscreen:
- Swipe down from the top to access Film Camera Mode and wireless connection settings.
- Swipe right to open the main menu, with categories selectable via the sub LCD.
- Swipe up from the bottom to reveal a customizable quick menu for adjusting select parameters quickly.
- Shutter button on the top plate is encircled by an exposure compensation dial with ±3 EV control. The shutter release is also threaded for standard cable releases.
- Frame Advance Lever replicates the manual film advance experience. In Film Camera Mode, it advances to the next frame; in standard mode, it activates the 2-in-1 shooting feature. When pressed in, it briefly shows the last captured image without entering playback mode.
- Built-in flash provides illumination for low-light environments.
- Cold shoe mount on the top plate supports accessories like external lights.
- Single SD card slot for storing images and video.
- Powered by an NP-W126S rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
- USB-C port supports charging, file transfer, and headphone-based audio monitoring.
Vertical Video
While clearly paying homage to a film photography camera, this camera can also be used to record video that’s perfectly formatted for sharing straight to social media, thanks to its vertical orientation and small file size. The unique sensor records 1080 x 1440 at 24 fps, there are dedicated slow-motion settings up to 200%, and there’s a built-in stereo mic on top of the camera.
Sharing and Printing
A camera built for sharing, it can wirelessly connect directly to an optional INSTAX printer for immediate printing and sharing of your shots. The dedicated X half app also makes it easy to digitally share your photos or videos and this app can also be used to develop your images made in the Film Camera mode.
