By combining RED’s renowned color science with Nikon’s engineering, the Nikon ZR 6K Cinema Camera emerges as a first-of-its-kind powerhouse designed for filmmakers and content creators who want uncompromising cinematic quality in a compact form. Built around the Nikon Z mount, it supports a wide variety of lenses and provides internal stabilization for smooth, steady imagery with an impressive 15+ stops of dynamic range. With recording options that include REDCODE, N-RAW, and ProRes RAW at up to 6K60, plus advanced autofocus, dual-base ISO, and 32-bit float audio, this tiny body carries the capabilities of a true cinema camera.
Audio and Recording Flexibility
Professional-grade audio capture is built in, with 32-bit float and 24-bit recording plus standard 48 kHz linear PCM for video production. Configurable microphones with five directional patterns are integrated into the body, and the digital accessory shoe supports external mics such as the ME-D10 shotgun. For monitoring, a standard headphone jack is included. Recording is handled by a CFexpress Type B slot for primary footage, with a microSD slot available for proxies. A micro-HDMI output provides monitoring and external recording options.

Nikon + RED Color Science
The ZR delivers seamless workflow compatibility by combining Nikon’s expertise with RED’s proven cinema technology. It supports REDCODE RAW (R3D NE), Nikon’s N-RAW, ProRes RAW HQ/422 HQ, and compressed H.264/H.265 codecs. With access to REDWideGamutRGB and Log3G10, filmmakers can capture resolutions up to 6K60, 4K120, and 1080p240 for dramatic slow-motion.
Advanced Autofocus and Stabilization
Nikon’s deep-learning autofocus system recognizes and tracks up to nine subjects, including people, animals, and vehicles, ensuring reliable focus in dynamic environments. The ZR also features built-in 7.5-stop image stabilization that works with both primes and zooms, producing smooth results even during handheld, gimbal, or drone use.

Creative Controls and Image Options
Filmmakers have access to dual-base ISO (800/6400) for Log3G10 and N-Log profiles, providing maximum flexibility in different lighting conditions. A shutter angle control spanning 5.6° to 360° offers precise exposure and motion-blur management. The camera also supports the loading of up to 10 custom LUTs for real-time monitoring on its high-quality 4″ touchscreen display, which offers DCI-P3 color, 1000 nits brightness, and 3.07 million dots of resolution.

Compact, Practical Design
Though it’s the size of a small mirrorless camera, the ZR was built with cinema applications in mind. Its compact, lightweight build makes it ideal for fieldwork, drones, vehicle rigs, or Steadicam setups. Filmmaker-oriented controls, including a stills/video switch, customizable function buttons, and quick menus for zebra, waveform, focus peaking, and other tools, allow rapid setup in demanding environments.
Connectivity and Power
Designed for modern workflows, the ZR integrates with Frame.io through its companion app for efficient cloud-based asset management, postproduction, and even live streaming. Power can be supplied by a standard EN-EL15c battery or via USB-C with external sources like power banks or AC adapters, providing flexibility for extended shoots.
