RED expands its KOMODO line with the black KOMODO-X 6K, a next-generation digital cinema camera that introduces a redesigned Super35 sensor, faster frame rates, and an updated body with enhanced video and audio interfaces. Built-in Wi-Fi and USB-C connectivity support efficient multicamera setups and IP-based workflows, including live streaming. The KOMODO-X is built for versatility in professional environments and will be supported by accessory packs like the RED Pro I/O V-Mount and Gold Mount Modules to streamline production.
Next-Gen KOMODO Sensor
The KOMODO-X features a newly redesigned 6K Super35 global shutter sensor that, while maintaining the same size as the original, delivers significant architectural upgrades. These enhancements include improved shadow detail, richer color reproduction, and higher frame rate capabilities—supporting up to 80 fps in 6K and up to 120 fps in 4K—for greater creative flexibility and smoother motion capture.
Compact KOMODO Form
The KOMODO-X 6K blends key DSMC3 features with the beloved ultracompact KOMODO form factor, offering an ideal balance of portability and professional capability. Designed for seamless integration, it supports the forthcoming PRO I/O Module for expanded connectivity and auxiliary power options, including full-size Gold and V-mount batteries. Additionally, it features a built-in micro plate for direct Micro V-mount battery attachment without the need for adapters, and a full-size 6-pin 11-17VDC power input for flexible power solutions on set.
Canon RF Mount
The KOMODO-X features a reinforced, locking Canon RF lens mount that supports RED’s toolless lens-mount system for quick and secure lens changes. This mount offers broad compatibility with RF lenses and, with optional adapters, supports a wide array of lens types. For professional cinema lenses, such as those with an ARRI PL mount, the KOMODO-X can be paired with the RED RF to PL adapter with an integrated electronic ND filter, expanding its versatility in high-end production environments.
Integrated LCD
The KOMODO-X is equipped with an integrated 2.9″ LCD screen, providing a convenient solution for image preview and basic control when working in tight or minimalist setups. For enhanced monitoring and full camera control, the camera can be paired with the DSMC3 7″ Touch LCD, a daylight-viewable, high-resolution display that connects directly without cables, maintaining a clean and efficient rig configuration.
Live Streaming and Expanded In/Out
The KOMODO-X’s expanded interface includes:
- 12G-SDI video output up to 4K60p.
- A USB-C port with Ethernet offload capabilities.
- Built-in Wi-Fi for 1080p IP live streaming for web applications and in-app monitoring.
Audio Interface
The KOMODO-X enhances audio capabilities with a locking, phantom-powered 5-pin connector. This versatile port can be used with a 3.5mm adapter for KOMODO microphones or expanded with a dual XLR adapter to support a wide range of professional microphones, delivering flexibility for various production needs.
Advanced Connectivity
With a USB-C interface and integrated Wi-Fi, the KOMODO-X is built for seamless IP workflows such as Virtual Production and live broadcasting. It supports remote camera control, FTP media off-loading, and in-camera Cloud uploading via the RED Control or Control Pro apps. Add a RED Connect license to unlock 6K live image broadcasting directly over IP. For multicamera setups and LED volume environments, the KOMODO-X also supports frame-accurate PTP or trilevel genlock syncing with dynamic offset adjustment.
