Sigma 15mm f/1.4 DC Contemporary Lens

Ultra-Fast, Ultra-Wide, Ultra-Compact

Blending an expansive field of view with a remarkably compact design, the Sigma 15mm f/1.4 DC Contemporary is an ultra-wide prime built for creators who want maximum impact in a minimal form factor. Ideal for landscapes, architecture, interiors, astrophotography, and immersive video work, this APS-C lens delivers dramatic perspective without the bulk typically associated with fast ultra-wide glass.

Speed & Sharpness

Designed specifically for APS-C-format cameras, the 15mm focal length provides a 22.5mm full-frame equivalent perspective—wide enough for sweeping scenes while maintaining natural proportions.

The bright f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and allows for creative depth-of-field control. Whether capturing night skies or isolating subjects in environmental compositions, the fast aperture ensures flexibility across lighting conditions.

The optical design incorporates:

  • FLD and SLD glass elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and enhance color accuracy
  • Three double-sided aspherical elements to control distortion and spherical aberrations
  • Optimized correction of sagittal coma flare for clean point-light rendering, especially important for astrophotography

Edge-to-edge sharpness is prioritized throughout the frame, even at wide apertures. Flare and ghosting are carefully suppressed for improved contrast in high-contrast or backlit scenes. A rounded 9-blade diaphragm produces smooth, rounded bokeh for a natural background rendering.

Compact Creativity

Compared to Sigma’s previous 16mm f/1.4 DC Contemporary, this 15mm version is approximately 30% shorter and 50% lighter—measuring about 2.6″ in length and weighing roughly 8 oz. The result is a highly portable ultra-wide that pairs seamlessly with compact mirrorless bodies.

Its lightweight, balanced construction makes it especially well suited for:

  • Gimbal-based video shooting
  • Vlogging setups
  • Travel and everyday carry

A stepping motor provides fast, quiet, and accurate autofocus performance. Focus breathing is also well-controlled, helping maintain a consistent angle of view during focus transitions—beneficial for video creators

Durable Design & Intuitive Handling

Built for real-world conditions, the lens features dust- and splash-resistant construction along with a water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element for easier cleaning and improved durability outdoors.

A manual aperture ring enables direct exposure adjustments, with an “A” position allowing aperture control through the camera body when preferred. The included petal-style lens hood helps reduce flare and offers additional front element protection.

As part of Sigma’s f/1.4 DC Contemporary lineup, this lens integrates smoothly into a compact system of fast primes, offering consistent performance and handling across multiple focal lengths.
