Long Normal, Short Portrait Prime
The Sigma 65mm f/2 DG Contemporary Lens offers a distinctive focal length between a standard 50mm lens and a traditional telephoto, making it well suited for portraits and everyday photography. Its f/2 maximum aperture provides control over depth of field and supports shooting in available light. The 65mm perspective also maintains some environmental context while providing a tighter field of view for selective compositions.
The Contemporary Line design measures approximately 2.8 x 3″ and weighs just over 14 oz, making it easy to carry for everyday shooting. An internal focusing system and stepping autofocus motor deliver fast, responsive performance for both still photography and video.
Advanced Optical Performance
The optical design incorporates one SLD element and two aspherical elements to help improve sharpness and control aberrations. Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and reflections to maintain contrast and image quality.
A rounded nine-blade diaphragm produces smooth, pleasing bokeh when using selective focus. The lens also features dust- and splash-resistant construction and a brass bayonet mount designed for durability and precise mounting.
Sigma I Series Design
The Sigma I Series combines high optical performance with compact dimensions and refined construction for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Its sleek design emphasizes portability, usability, and dependable performance for photographers who want capable lenses without unnecessary bulk.
The lens features an all-metal construction, including precision-machined aluminum barrel components that provide a durable, refined finish. Metal materials are also used throughout the internal construction for added strength and reliability, drawing inspiration from Sigma’s Cine lens lineup.
Tactile Controls and Included Accessories
Knurled aperture and focus rings provide a tactile feel, complemented by an included knurled metal lens hood. An AF/MF switch allows quick focusing-mode changes, while the aperture ring’s dedicated A position makes it easy to switch to aperture-priority exposure mode.
The lens includes both a conventional plastic lens cap and a magnetic metal lens cap for a streamlined attachment experience. The magnetic cap is also compatible with the optional CH-11 Magnetic Cap Holder.
